Event News Update: Well, the 2007 Bowl-A-Rama is history, and we want to thank you all for the support you showed to us. As the date approached, we weren't even certain we were going to participate! We had received a few donations, but we still didn't have anyone volunteer to bowl with us. But, some last-minute arrangements were made and we were able to make a team of four.

Wall to wall rescuers -- an amazing sight! Photo by Jon. Click to enlarge. As with last year's event, the bowling alley was a sea of humanity, but a somewhat calmer sea than we observed last year. (click the photos to see larger versions of them)

Still more rescuers! Photo by Jon. Click to enlarge. Here's another view of the assembled throng, looking towards the other end of the alley.

With just four of us, we each needed to bowl two games. Jon bowled this year (much to Eileen's chagrin), and we had three volunteers join us: Jim, Kevin, and Nohl.

Kevin, a volunteer bowler. Photo by Jon. Click to enlarge. Here's our second volunteer bowler, Kevin. As you can see, he is on his way towards picking up a spare.

Nohl, a volunteer bowler. Photo by Jon. Click to enlarge. Here's our third volunteer bowler, Nohl. Ours was the third team he'd bowled for that day, and he was bushed. But, he still managed to bowl a strike when a colored pin was the lead pin, thereby earning us an extra $10 in donations! Way to go, Nohl!

We also got some generous donations from Juliet and the folks at her work, Bev, Eileen, Jessica, Lori, Ann, Sonja, and Suzanne. Thank you all so much! And give yourselves a hand, everyone! YOU are helping to make AZCR a strong, vibrant rescue here in the Phoenix area! Thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!

Picnic News Update: We are going to have to postpone the Corgi Round-Up on Saturday. We truly apologize.

Not only have we received very little in the way of interest and RSVPs (could be the heat, the busy summer season, the location, who knows?), but we have a medical problem to contend with.

I just brought Jon home from the hospital, where he spent most of the day going through tests and seeing doctors. Many of you know that Jon has a condition called Cardiomyopathy. Well, he was having some "episodes" in the upper heart chamber, which may have been caused by several different reasons. We feel that this latest incident was due to extreme stress. On Monday, we had to take Bear, our very elderly Keeshond, to be euthanized. The doctors are able to pinpoint, with incredible accuracy, when an episode takes place...and this last one happened just as he was taking Bear into the vet's office. Bear was Jon's very favorite dog of all time and his going downhill has caused Jon considerable stress and sadness. Not only was he very depressed about losing Bear, but he was not feeling good overall, hence going to the hospital.

The doctors recommend a period of rest for Jon...no lifting things, no stress, not going outside at all. This will make the party nearly impossible for us as there are so many things that I cannot do either, and typically depend upon him for.

But I don't want to see Jon start to feel any worse, so we beg your forgiveness and ask that you understand that we need to postpone this Round-Up. It's NOT what either of us want, but I need to watch out for my hubby. We plan to reschedule this for late September. We will send out another HOWL invitation and pray that you can attend on the new date!

Again, we wholeheartedly apologize to you and your Corgwyn.

Event News Update: It's that time of year once again, folks, for the 2007 Bowl-A-Rama, and we need your help!

For those of you unfamiliar with the Bowl-a-Rama, this event, sponsored by It's a Ruff Life Doggie Daycare and Grooming, gives pet rescue groups throughout the Valley a wonderful way to raise funds. All the groups have to do is get people -- anyone, such as next-door neighbors, coworkers, family, friends, even businesses -- to sponsor the group by making a pledge towards the completion of two bowling games. Every pledge -- every single cent -- goes directly to the rescue organization to which they have been pledged! That's a HUGE opportunity for every rescue group to receive needed funds to take care of their rescued pets prior to placement!

Of course, you're now asking yourself, "How can I help?" Easy! You can CLICK HERE to bring up the 2007 Bowl-A-Rama Pledge Sheet, in Adobe PDF format, print it (or you can right-click on the link and then save the document to print it later), and start to gather up pledges yourself to help us out. We've even customized the form to read "AZ Corgi Rescue" for you! As you get your sheets completed, let us know via e-mail how you're doing. All pledge sheets and pledges need to be turned in to us by the start of the event.

You can also help us out by volunteering to bowl with us. We need to assemble a team of eight people. If you enjoy bowling, no matter your average, and you're free on Saturday, August 4, 2007, from 1:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., please drop us a note and let us know that you'd like to join in on the fun. The pledges are NOT affected by your bowling scores!! So no matter how good or bad you are, please join us anyway! And, even if you're not able to bowl, come on down and cheer on the bowlers! There will be plenty of things to do at the event, which is just one huge celebration for all the rescue groups in the area. Everyone who bowls and everyone who comes to cheer us on will go home with a small gift of appreciation to thank you for your help. And, for the person who brings in the most pledges, we have a special gift that no Corgi lover will want to be without! (And no, it's not a rescued Corgi! <g>)

If you can get some pledges for us, it really would be appreciated! Every little bit helps! Last year, some very wonderful folks helped us to raise nearly $1000! We were amazed!! This year, we would love to raise more because we are still working towards obtaining our 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status, so that we might be able to help homeless Corgis even better! But that will cost us at least $1500+, so we need all the assistance we can get! Please help us!

Thank you ever so much from the bottom of our and all the needy Corgis' hearts!

Picnic News Update: We've really got something good to HOWL about!! It's finally happening!

The 2nd Great Corgi Round Up 2007!

It will be a lot of fun and we hope as many Corgi-loving folks as possible can join us! See our party announcement for more information and plan to come to our house on July 21st!

We are hoping to see many of the friends that we have made over the last three years and maybe even some new faces! If you know other Corgi owners/lovers who might want to come, please just let us know!

But please make sure to RSVP! Send us an e-mail and please let us know who all is coming, how many Corgwyn (you may bring a companion dog that is NOT a Corgi, too), and what pot luck dish you will be bringing (again, see the attached flyer!). Then in return, we will send you a map to our home! We really need the RSVP because we put a lot of work into this and we just want it to be the best time possible, and knowing how many folks and doggies that are coming helps us a lot!

Amazing News Update: Well, the 2006 Bowl-A-Rama is history, and we are still floored by the tremendous response you all showed to us. We had five people volunteer to bowl for us, including Chris and Jennifer, two people we'd never met before who are animal lovers and are friends of new AZCR volunteers Juliette and Tim, Juliette herself, and Ceci and Rod, who adopted Foxy. Jon gracefully (and wisely) decided to step aside and not bowl himself, as the likelihood he would slip on his cast and hurt himself -- or others! -- was pretty high. And Lori, a Corgi owner, as well as Bev of Bunny Rescue (and a Corgi owner, too) stopped by to pledge and show their support!

Wall to wall rescuers -- an amazing sight! Photo by Eileen. Click to enlarge. The bowling alley was a sea of humanity -- wall to wall animal rescuers and animal lovers, all having fun and raising funds for their respective organizations. The energy and fellowship was practically intoxicating!

We were to bowl a total of eight games; Jennifer and Juliette each bowled one game, and Chris, Rod, and Ceci each bowled two. Rod had the highest score of the day, with Chris a close second.

Front row, left to right: Ceci, Chris, Jennifer, Tim, Juliette. Back row: Rod, Lori, and Jon. Photo by Eileen. Click to enlarge. Thanks to everyone's generosity, a total of $985 was raised for AZCR! Chris even took his pledge sheet to work and managed to raise $500 from his coworkers! (That's our kind of company!) We are now well on our way towards being able to finance our 501(c)(3) application.

Give yourselves a hand, people! YOU are helping to make AZCR a strong, vibrant rescue here in the Phoenix area! Thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!

Great News: Thanks to everyone who wrote, called, and/or kept us in their thoughts and prayers over the past few months. Jon wound up in the hospital three times, and only one of those times was the stay planned! He is doing well now, and both he and Eileen are getting back into the swing of rescue, not to mention regular life!
